Audemars Piguet CALIBER 3120

Article by Audemars Piguet March 2004AUDEMARS PIGUET CALIBRE 3120
After hand-wound Calibre 3090 created in 1999, the Manufacture presents the 3120: a selfwinding calibre with centre seconds and digital date aperture. For the time being, this movement beats at the heart of the Jules Audemars line, and will subsequently be incorporated in other lines.
Audemars Piguet has consistently asserted its independence. This spirit has led it to seek ever greater mastery of the entire process of making its watches.
Performances and specific features of Calibre 3120
• The original shape and the weight of the rotor, mounted on a ball-bearing mechanism, ensure peerless bidirectional winding
• The limited space taken up by the gear-trains leaves room for a larger barrel, thus increasing the power-reserve to 60 hours. Combined with the larger size of the inertia-block balance, the precision of the movement is considerably increased
• Moreover, the rigidity of the balance-cock enhances the reliability of the movement
Devotion to details
In addition to its undeniable technical innovations, this calibre, as indeed all Audemars calibres, features important aesthetic qualities. Entirely decorated according to the principles of hand craftsmanship, its bridges are adorned with the "Côtes de Genève" motif and its 22-carat gold oscillating weight is engraved with the family crests of the two founding families of the Manufacture, who still sit on the Board of Directors.
